Trish Grantham, Mural Magic

The evolution of Olio United took a step forward this week, as our soffits were dressed in a pretty new mural.  We were lucky enough to get Trish Grantham, a favorite local artist, to work her magic on our walls – and just in time for Thursday’s opening of our Esque glass show! We have been admirers of Trish’s work for quite some time, and enjoyed her exhibit with our daily coffee at the Bakery Bar, so we jumped at the chance to feature her at Olio.

After moving to Portland in 1998, Trish took up painting and, as is every artist’s dream, within a couple of months was exhibiting her unique work. Her adorable cast of characters include birds, milk, toast(!), a squirrel, deer and other little friends, which weave in and out of her mixed media pieces, setting a mood and often telling a story.

For Olio, Trish was inspired by 60’s aviation design and our paper airplane installation. Her characters look like they are all set to fly in their dapper hats, with a “good luck to all” wish in Japanese to send them on their way. Come by Olio to see the completed mural, and find out why we are especially smitten with our little “camper” squirrel.
